This prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study enrolled 30 participants aged 18 to 65. They were equipped with sleep monitoring devices to assess the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), physical activity, and anxiety levels. The study involved an intervention group taking an oral lemon balm phospholipid complex and a control group taking an identical-looking placebo (a tablet with no therapeutic effect).

The results showed that the lemon balm phospholipid complex significantly reduced insomnia severity. Compared to the placebo, it led to significant improvements in sleep

quality and subjective feelings about sleep. Additionally, the study found a significant increase in deep sleep duration in the intervention group.

Melissa officinalis L. is a perennial herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family, genus Melissa.

According to Treatise on Drugs, lemon balm can be steeped in medicinal wine to treat external injuries, insect bites, and snakebites. Historical records show it has been used

topically for wound healing since ancient Greek and Roman times. Later, it was taken internally to address influenza, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and stomach discomfort.
